The decision to restore our 1964 356 Coupe didn’t come about arbitrarily. On June 8th, 1948, the first car to bear the Porsche name was road-certified: the Porsche 356. This piece of automotive history means as much to the Porsche brand, as it does to automotive enthusiasts around the world. With iconic lines and a silhouette that inspired nearly every future Porsche model, the 356 stands as a beacon of our heritage as the world’s leading sport car manufacturer.
When starting a restoration project, we always seek out the best, most suitable example to rebuild back to their former glory. As with all major restoration projects, there are often unforseen challenges. Our 356 Coupe was no exception. Upon stripping the paint (unoriginal), our Classic Restoration Team noticed a large amount of body filler, which was a common bodywork practice during the 70s and 80s. To be true to our 356’s glowing heritage, our team removed nearly 200 lbs of unneeded body filler, regaining structural integrity of the vehicle’s body and ensuring a successful restoration process moving forward.
We’re very excited to complete this labourious stage of our restoration process. Once body work is finished, We will move over to the painting/finishing stage to ensure that our 356 is ready for the coming Spring season.
Stay tuned for more updates as we bring back Betsy to her former glory.
